Join our open afternoon to find out about the new carrot storage methods currently being tested by AHDB Horticulture.

With straw becoming increasingly problematical as a sustainable technique for carrot storage, largely due to the cost and volatile availability, this will be a fantastic opportunity for growers to see new techniques currently being trialed and how new methods could save money too.

Kindly hosted by Hobson Farming and the Scampston Hall Estate, this will be a chance for growers to view each of the treatments first hand and their impact on crop quality.

The treatments:

  • Uncovered
  • Standard Straw
  • Reduced straw plus poly cover
  • Re-used closed cell foam
  • Cellulose fibre
  • Cellulose fibre plus poly cover

Of particular interest will be the cellulose fibre which has been performing as well as the other treatments but is fully saturated. It is thought that it is effectively protecting the crop via both a thermal mass effect and trapped air.
