Join us at our open day to see how the herbicide field trials for spring onions are progressing as part of our SCEPTREplus crop protection research programme.
Weed control in alliums has been difficult since the loss of ioxynil, and Wing-P can also be too ‘hot’ when used pre-emergence at a rate sufficient to control weeds, especially in spring onion crops. Therefore this leaves gaps in pre-emergence weed control, and alternative residual herbicides are needed for pre-emergence use which are effective but still safe to use in the crop.
Four residual herbicides have been evaluated in the trial on spring onions at four different rates, as well as one pre-em tank-mix treatment applied at two rates.
Your feedback on the treatments will be used by the project team to help inform future trial work and any applications for authorisations.
BASIS and NRoSO points are being applied for.
