The Problem:

There are few label recommended herbicides available for ornamentals growers. This project will evaluate a wide range of herbicides for crop safety on four key cut-flower crops and wallflowers grown at the Cut-flower Centre, Terrington, and on container nursery stock; herbaceous perennials and shrubs at two commercial nurseries.

Aims and objectives:

Project aim(s):

To develop new herbicide options for ornamental plant growers in order to achieve effective, economic weed control with minimal crop damage.
(Project objective(s):
1) To test 10 new herbicide treatments, alone or in combinations, for crop safety on 5 flower species (3 drilled, 1 transplanted, 1 bulb)
2) To test 5 new herbicides for crop safety on 20 container-grown hardy nursery stock shrub subjects when used as a summer treatment after potting.
3) To test 4 new herbicides for crop safety on 20 container-grown hardy perennial subjects when used as a summer treatment after potting.
4) To communicate the results of the project to growers and the wider industry
