To coincide with the release of the HDC cross sector grower guide on biopesticides, HDC organised a workshop focusing on biopesticide use in ornamentals. The first workshop took place on Thursday 27 November 2014 at Stoneleigh Park, Warwickshire.
The event included presentations by industry experts on real grower experiences by John Richards of John Richards Nurseries and Colin Bloomfield; thoughts on lessons learned by growers in the Netherlands by Dr Aleid Dik, lessons on improving biopesticide application by ornamental growers from Dr Roy Bateman; and the future of biopesticide use and new technologies by Dr. Roma Gwynn.
The afternoon session comprised of ‘clinics’ from a number of companies specialising in biopesticide products which enabled growers to find out how to maximise the efficacy of products and integrate their use of biopesticides and conventional pesticides and develop effective control programmes.
Charles Carr, Nursery Director at Garden Beauty said 'I wanted to say thanks and congratulations for a good day! Well attended, stimulating and with messages of hope for the future, Roma did a very good job. I feel that there’s a lot that we learned which can be put into place on the nursery.'
