Grace Emeny has worked at AHDB for ten years, and AHDB was her first experience of working within the horticulture industry having completed a Zoology undergraduate degree and MRes degree in Biology. It was her Master’s degree that made her realise that she wanted to work for a company that was involved in scientific research, so Grace says the opportunity to join the horticulture team at AHDB was perfect. She originally started in the research admin team, before moving to the Knowledge Exchange team in 2014, and subsequently to the Crop Health and Protection team in 2022

Until 2022, the main focus areas of Grace’s role job were all things to do with labour in horticulture, whether that be shortages, issues with productivity or looking to the future to find new robotics or technologies that could displace some labour requirements. She was also involved in planning events, training workshops, conferences and international study tours, and she still finds that getting out and running workshops and events for growers one of the most rewarding aspects of her role.

Grace’s current role involves working with the EAMU (Extension of Approval for Minor Uses) team. In particular, she works alongside Legume, Sweetcorn and Cucurbit growers, whilst liaising with researchers and plant protection product manufacturers to bring new crop protection solutions to growers.
