Horticulture and Potatoes 2022/23 Activity Update

Tuesday, 5 April 2022

The Potatoes Board has ended, and the Horticulture Board continues to oversee the wind down of the sector and EAMUs.

The AHDB Potatoes Board has now officially ended and been disbanded. Ken Boyns, Divisional Director – Services said,

“We would like to thank all of the previous members of the Potatoes Board for their service and commitment during their tenures, and particularly during the process of winding down activity. It is not an easy task to maintain motivation during this type of work and can be very unsettling for all involved, but their dedication to ensuring that the Potatoes levy payers received a smooth and prompt wind down following the Potatoes Ballot result, has been extraordinary and is appreciated.”

The work to wind down AHDB Horticulture is continuing, with Peter Judge chairing the Horticulture Board. They will continue to oversee the Extension of Authorisation for Minor Use (EAMU) programme – including Emergency Authorisations – as the service will continue throughout the 2022/23 financial year.

The Board will also manage the transition to the new model that will be determined by Defra and the wider industry. However, they will not commission any new work, other than projects for the EAMU programme.

The AHDB Board has confirmed that it will make any decisions that are needed on the final stages of the Potatoes wind down (which includes the final sale of Sutton Bridge) and will ratify any decisions from the Horticulture Board during the continued wind down process for the sector.
